Information on the September club campout was submitted by Kayla and Margaret.
The club campout for September was the weekend of the 16th-18th, at Bennett Spring State Park near Lebanon Mo; hosted by Mark, Margaret & Marilyn Glorfeld.
The weekend was met with a lot of rain that was much needed in the area!!! So no one complained, too much. That is what Mother Nature had in store for everyone, although it would have been nice if everyone could have enjoyed the great outdoors during the weekend. Most arrived at different times on Friday night. Mostly arriving during rain showers. Saturday was filled with a day of whatever you wanted to do between the rain showers: some walked the beautiful paths near the water, around the campground and to the fish hatchery, some fished, then others went to the outlet mall to find some deals or rain gear that was needed at different times during the weekend. Saturday evening, the rain stopped. Two grills were fired up, with grill masters: Mark & Mike. Thank you for all your great cooking skills. They loaded both grills with BBQ chicken. The wonderful smell filled the campground, causing other campers walking by to get hungry. Everyone gathered around the tables near the grills, lots of visiting happened before, during and after dinner. The BBQ chicken and side dishes were yummy. After dinner a campfire was a great spot to hang out on the damp evening.
As soon as everyone turned out the lights, more rain!!!!!! All night. Sunday morning we looked out and the sky was blue. The breakfast grills were going, so a pot luck breakfast was a wonderful close to our weekend. The rest of the morning everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather, either fishing, visiting or just hanging out and relaxing. We kept a close eye on the radar, heading our direction, were more storms and wind. They were going to be at our location soon, and everyone thought we should start picking up camp. They finished and then the rain started again. They all had a wet yet fun time, camping. Did they mention it, it rained a lot!!!!

Halloween Fun Facts/Trivia
Orange and black are Halloween colors because orange is associated with the fall harvest and black is associated with darkness and death.
Jack o’ Lanterns originated in Ireland where people placed candles in hollowed-out turnips to keep away spirits and ghosts on the Samhain holiday.
Pumpkins also come in white, blue and green. Great for unique monster carvings.
Halloween was brought to North America by immigrants from Europe who would celebrate the harvest around a bonfire, share ghost stories, sing, dance and tell fortunes.
In North America, trick – or – treating has been a customary Halloween tradition since at least the late 1950s. Homeowners wishing to participate in it usually decorate their private entrance with plastic spider webs, paper skeltons and jack-o-lanterns.
`Halloween is the 2nd most commercially successful holiday, with Christmas being the first.
If you see a spider on Halloween, it is the spirit of a loved one watching over you.
The August campout was held at Ozark Country Campground in Branson, MO. Paul and I were the hosts. This was the first time the club was at Ozark Country Campground. They had a nice club room with a full kitchen for us to use. They also had a very nice pool as well. Everyone seemed to be impressed by the campground. Paul and I served Ice Cream Floats on Friday evening.Saturday morning we provided a breakfast casserole, everyone else brought sides to go with it. Saturday evening we provided BBQ’d hot dogs and hamburgers, again everyone brought the sides to go with them. Everything everyone brought was delicious as usual.Friday evening some of us enjoyed the pool until the Ice Cream Floats were served. Saturday after breakfast most of us went into Branson for the afternoon. After we got back from town we found several visitors in our unit. Jim & Umeko Gibson, Paul’s dad Marvin, and our oldest son Travis and his daughter Caidence. Travis and Caidence ended up staying for dinner and the rest of the weekend with us. Saturday evening Darrell and Dee came out to see everybody, especially Caidence. After dinner a storm blew in, which was kind of upsetting because several of us wanted to get back in the pool. So instead we stayed in the club room and visited and looked at pictures. Sunday as usual came way to soon. So we had to say our unfortunate goodbyes until the next time.

September Fun FactsThe first observance of Labor Day is believed to have been a parade on Sept. 5, 1882, in New York City, probably organized by Peter J. McGuire, a Carpenters and Joiners Union secretary. By 1893, more than half the states were observing a “Labor Day” on one day or another, and a bill to establish a federal holiday was passed by Congress in 1894. President Grover Cleveland signed the bill soon afterward, designating the first Monday in September as Labor Day.Labor Day is the only legal holiday in September. It comes on the first Monday, and is celebrated in both the United States and Canada.According to the Georgian calendar, September is the ninth month. But, on the Roman calendar, it was the seventh month. September has had 29 days, and 31 days; but, since the time of the emperor Augustus, it has had only 30 days.September is one of the warmest months in the Southern United States. Northern states have warm September days, but the nights get much cooler. It is also harvest time for crops. The sapphire is the gem for September. The Morning Glory is the flower of September.
July 2011 NewsletterThe July campout was held at Thompson’s RV Park in Lebanon, MO. Bob and Ernie were our wonderful hosts. This was the first time the club had stayed at Thompson’s. They had a nice club room for us to use for the weekend. Good thing too, because it was really hot over the weekend. Bob and Ernie provided food for most of the meals. Friday evening they provided hamburgers and the fixings. The rest of us were to provide the deserts. Saturday morning they provided biscuits and sausage gravy, milk, and juice. The rest of us provided fruit. Saturday evening they served us KC strips and baked potatoes. The rest of us brought the sides and deserts. Since we had plenty of leftovers from Saturday morning, we all decided to meet for breakfast again on Sunday. Everything Bob and Ernie provided us was delicious. Of course what everybody brought was delicious too.
Since it was so hot we spent most of our time just taking it easy together and visiting. Saturday evening after dinner Paul and I taught everybody a card game called Blitz.

August Fun FactsAugust is the eighth month, renamed by the Romans from Sextilis’, meaning sixth, to honor their emperor, Augustus.
August is the height of the summer time in the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere. The longest days of the year is passed, but the hot days remain. In the northern regions and mountains, cool nights and early frosts lets one know that the summer is about to come to an end. In the Southern Hemisphere, August means the winter will soon be over.
The birds are already planning to fly south for the winter. The insects are noisier and numerous than in any other month. This is perhaps the busiest month for businesses, since most people take their vacations in August.

The June Club campout was held at Pomme de Terre State Park Pittsburg Campground the weekend of June 3rd-5th. Bruce and Terry were our hosts. All had arrived by a hot and muggy Friday evening. Even though it was hot we still had a bonfire, silly us.
Saturday we started the day with biscuits and sausage gravy that Bruce and Terry provided. The rest of us brought the other breakfast fare. After breakfast some of us decided to go for a drive, and check out some of the other campgrounds around the lake. We all decided we liked Damsite U.S. Corps Park the best. Below the dam they were letting out a lot of water. After our drive, and back at the campground we stopped in at the marina and had a light lunch. For dinner, Bruce and Terry provided spaghetti and French bread. The rest of us brought the sides. After dinner we sat around and visited, we were a little smarter though and did not have a bonfire.
Sunday as we were all very slowly preparing to leave, we talked about the State Rally coming up the following weekend. We were all very excited about it.
The State Rally followed the club campout the weekend of June 10th-12th. On Thursday evening we had a Pre-Rally Pot Luck dinner. We started the Rally on Friday evening with a dinner of chili dogs and chips. After dinner The Hard Livin’ Band provided the entertainment. During intermission we awarded the Early Bird award for a free 2012 MO Rally. Don and Carol Huck from my hometown of Ste. Genevieve and chapter 288 Archway Coachmen won the free registration for next year’s rally. Following the Early Bird we awarded all the door prizes. Almost everybody ended up with two. After the band started back up, ice cream sandwiches were provided.
Saturday we started the day with a biscuits and sausage gravy breakfast and side dishes were provided by the rally attendees. Following breakfast we had the Flag Raising Ceremony officiated by our own Paul Schuler. We also took a few minutes to remember our COA friends we have lost and fallen military personnel. After the Flag Raising the games began. There was Bocce Ball, Crazy Golf, and washer toss. After the games were done and lunch on your own, rally attendees had a craft/garage sale at their units. Bean Bag baseball preliminary rounds were Saturday afternoon. Saturday evening dinner was served. We had grilled pork tender loin, green beans and potatoes, corn, rolls, and desert. Following dinner the final round of Bean Bag baseball was played. We finished up the evening with a Bah-Wah-Na log campfire, Sing-along, and s’mores provided Bob and Ernie McClelland.
Sunday morning we had a continental breakfast. After breakfast there was a nondenominational worship service. The State meeting followed the worship service. The highlights were the 2012 MO State Rally will be held again at Arrowhead Point. The dates have changed; it will be one weekend later over June 15th-17th. We finished up the Rally with our traditional lunch time run for pizza.
Thanks so much to all of you that chipped in and made the Rally a real success!!!!! Whether it is was from getting door prizes, goodie bag items, supplying items to be used at the rally, or helping with the meals. Everything you did was greatly appreciated!!!

The May Club Campout was held at Aunts Creek U.S. Corps Park between Branson West and Kimberling City. Darrell and Dee were our great hosts. The weather unfortunately was not very pretty. Cold, windy, and some drizzle. Some of the park was still under water due to all the rain we have had recently.
Our daughter Cortney came down Saturday morning and was able to visit with everyone till shortly after lunch, when she had to head back home to go to work. Those that have not seen her for awhile were glad to see her again. With Darrell’s help Roger fixed his Famous Breakfast Hash for everybody on Saturday morning. The rest of us brought potluck sides to go with it. Dee thought because of the cool tempatures outside we should eat breakfast in their rig. Paul’s brother’s girls and his sister-in-law came down and spent the afternoon with us.We spent the afternoon outside in spite of the cool tempratures and the cool breeze. To help us keep warm, we started a bon fire. With the fire, and the help of some hot chocolate that Dee provided we did stay warm. Saturday evening for dinner Darrell and Dee provided ham and turkey. Everyone else brought the pot luck sides and deserts. Again Dee thought we should eat in their rig because of the cool tempratures outside.
Sunday came and the weather was not any better. Again we meet at Darrell and Dee’s for breakfast. They served ham and eggs and everyone again brought pot luck sides. Unfortunately, like always Sunday means the weekend campout is just about over. We reluctantly all said our goodbyes till we meet again.

Flag Day Fun Facts
The first “official” Flag Day was celebrated in 1877 – the flag’s centennial. In 1916, a grass roots movement resulted in President Woodrow Wilson issuing a proclamation that called for a nationwide observance of Flag Day on June 14. Although still not an official holiday, Flag Day was made a permanent observance in America in 1949 by Congress who resolved “That the 14th day of June of each year is hereby designated as Flag Day.”
Why red, white and blue? To the original members of the Continental Congress, red stood for hardiness and courage, white for purity and innocence, and blue for vigilance and justice.
Why thirteen stars and stripes? They represented the thirteen American colonies which rallied around the new flag in their fight against the British for self-governance.
Father’s DayFun Facts
The idea of Father’s Day was conceived in Spokane, Washington by Sonora Dodd while she listened to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909.
Sons and daughters send 50 percent of the Father’s Day card to their dads. Nearly 20 percent of Father’s Day cards are purchased by wives for their husbands. That leaves 30 percent of the cards which go to grandfathers, sons, brothers, uncles and “someone special.”
The first presidential proclamation honoring fathers was issued in 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson designated the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Father’s Day has been celebrated annually since 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed the public law that made it permanent.

April 2011 Newsletter
The April club campout was held the weekend of April 29th-May 1st. John and Amy were our hosts. The location was originally supposed to be at Branson Lakeside RV Park, a.k.a. City Campground. However due to all the rain we have been getting lately and the rising stream and lake levels, and the campground being right on the banks of Lake Taneycomo it was completely under water. The campout was relocated to higher ground at Compton Ridge Campground also in Branson.
Saturday most of us went out to breakfast at Billy Gail’s near the campground. They serve huge portions for a reasonable price. They also have really good lunches as well. From there we went to check out the water. The first stop was Shepherd of the Hills Trout Hatchery just below Table Rock Dam. The Corps of Engineers were releasing enough water thru the flood gates to create White Water on Lake Taneycomo. While we were there we took time to see the baby trout and go thru the hatchery’s conservation building. Next stop was Branson Lakeside RV Park. Good thing it was decided to change location, it was just a little bit under water. From there we did some shopping. First stop and a must see Dick’s Five & Ten. What a great place to see things you would remember from your childhood. Then we were off to Tanger Outlet Mall to finish up the shopping. Joel and Susan after going to Dick’s went to see Noah the Musical at the Sight and Sound Theatre. A great show if you have not seen it. Then we headed back to the campground to prepare for the evening meal. John and Amy provided slow cooked BBQ’d pulled pork. They always do a great job on their BBQ. Everyone else provided the sides and deserts. We have too many good cooks, you always end up eating way too much. As it was Josie’s birthday earlier in the week, she brought several friends along. They spent a lot of time at the indoor pool and playing basketball.
Sunday we woke to chillier temperatures and the threat of rain. It ended not being a threat, just what we need more rain. OH BOY!!!!!! So we all pushed a head thru the rain and got ready to go home. We all then said our goodbyes till next time.

Memorial Day Fun Facts
Memorial Day is a great way to remember our patriotic heroes who sacrificed their lives to help us breathe the air of freedom. This day is observed with families and friends visiting cemeteries and memorials to pay homage to their loved ones.
Memorial Day was declared a federal holiday in 1971. We now, designate this day to remember loved ones who have passed on, as well as remembering our service men and women. Flowers and flags are placed on graves in remembrance of them. Parades and dedications of memorials usually are part of the day’s activities.
On Memorial Day flags should be at half staff till noon, then raised to full staff.
Memorial Day was first called “Decoration Day” because of the practice of decorating soldier’s graves with flowers.
Just a reminder if you plan on going to the State Rally and have not done so, don’t forget to get you application mailed off. We think we will fill the park so don’t delay.

The club started the 2011 camping season by helping out our sponsor Reliable RV at their huge RV Show on their lot. Lisa spent most of the work week during the afternoon up there helping them out. She made several good contacts. More of us were able to come up on Saturday and help Lisa and Reliable out. We had several Silver Creek videos set up, one in the office and the other outside with us and the club display. Mike manned the grill all day and did an awesome job. The rest of us helped out with their customers. All was going well until the storm blew in around 3:00. Coachmen even had two of their reps there, a travel trailer rep and a Chaparral 5th Wheel rep. Hopefully we get some new members for our club. Thanks to all of you who were there to help out.
The first club campout of the year was held the weekend of the 25th-27th at Arrowhead Point RV Park & Campground just west of Collins. Mike and Kayla were our gracious hosts. Other than a cold rain on Saturday we had a really good weekend. Some of us for Saturday lunch went to the Rusty Jug for BBQ, voted again this year in the MO Electric CO-OP magazine “The Electric Sparks Rural Missouri” as Best BBQ in Southwest MO. We also held the State Rally Planning Meeting Saturday afternoon. Mike and Kayla provided spaghetti and meatballs for Saturday dinner, everyone else brought the sides. After dinner we concluded the evening playing games in the club house. Sunday as always came too soon and we said our goodbyes till next time.
News from the Rally Planning Meeting the State Rally is to be held the weekend of June 10th-12th at Arrowhead Point. Dinner Friday evening will be chili, hot dogs, chips, and a desert. Following dinner The Hard Livin’ Band will provide the entertainment. Saturday morning we will start with a biscuit and gravy breakfast with potluck sides provided by the rally attendees. We will then head outside for the Flag Raising Ceremony. Paul Schuler one of our newest members plans on having a Color Guard unit there as well to present the history of our Great and Proud Flag. The Day will continue with games. We are in charge of Crazy Golf. We will then take a break for lunch on our own. We will continue the day with the prelims of bean bag baseball, a craft show, and garage sale. Dinner will be grilled pork loin, with sides and desert. Following dinner the bean bag baseball finals will be held. We will finish the evening with a Bah-Wah-Na Log campfire, s’mores, and sing along. Sunday will start with a Continental breakfast. A Non-denominational Church Service will follow. The rally will then conclude with State Meeting. I also want to thank Bob & Ernie McClelland and Paul & Belinda Schuler for their donations to the rally. Bob & Ernie are providing the s’mores and providing the grill to cook Friday & Saturday’s dinner on. Paul & Belinda made a generous monetary donation to help with rally costs.

The February/Valentine Gathering was held at John and Amy’s. It had been postponed from an early date because of cold weather and deep and blowing snow. As everyone was arriving, we did some visiting to catch up with one another as most of us had not seen each other since the Christmas Party.
John prepared a wonderful smoked pork loin, which just melted in your mouth. Everyone else brought the sides and deserts. Boy did some of the cooks get fancy with the deserts they made. Everything was very tasty as always.
After dinner John showed off his race car to the boys. The activity in the house was the Just Dance video game, what fun that was and a workout too!

Fun Facts about St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day is observed on March 17 because that is the feast day of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. It is believed that he died on March 17 in the year 461 AD. It is also a worldwide celebration of Irish culture and history. St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in Ireland, and a provincial holiday in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The actual color of St. Patrick is blue. Green became associated with St. Patrick’s Day during the 19th century. Green, in Irish legends, was worn by fairies and immortals, and also by people to encourage their crops to grow.
St. Patrick did not actually drive snakes out of Ireland; the snakes represent the pagans that he converted to Christianity.
The very first St. Patrick’s Day parade was not in Ireland. It was in Boston in 1737.
In Chicago, on St. Patrick’s Day, the rivers are dyed green.
In Seattle, there is a ceremony where a green stripe is painted down the roads.
Most Catholics attend mass in the morning and then attend the St. Patrick’s Day parade.
In Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day, people traditionally wear a small bunch of shamrocks on their jackets or caps. Children wear orange, white and green badges, and women and girls wear green ribbons in their hair
The phrase, “Drowning The Shamrock” is from the custom of floating the shamrock on the top of whiskey before drinking it. The Irish believe that if you keep the custom, then you will have a prosperous year.
One estimate suggests that there are about 10,000 regular three-leaf clovers for every lucky four-leaf clover.
Legend says that each leaf of the clover means something: the first is for hope, the second for faith, the third for love and the fourth for luck.
Paul and I can’t wait for the 2011 Camping season to begin. We hope to see everyone at Reliable and Arrowhead.

Darrell and Dee welcomed the club into their beautiful home, for the Club Christmas Party on December 11th. They were such great hosts. As we were waiting for all to arrive we did some visiting to catch up with each other. For our dinner they went all out. There was turkey, sloppy joes, dressing, salads, casseroles, and desserts prepared for us. The rest of us brought dishes to go along with what was prepared. After dinner and while clean up was being done we did some more catching up. Following that our hosts had arranged for some live entertainment. Potential new members Warren and Marilyn Samuelson played and sang Christmas Carols. Of course all of us joined in. Then we got to the gift exchange. There were plenty of gifts under the Christmas Tree.
After the gift exchange we discussed our 2011 camping schedule, it is to be completed soon. We finished up the evening playing games, snacking, and with more visiting. Thanks Darrell and Dee.

New Years and Valentine’s Day Fun Facts:
The celebration of the new year is the oldest of all holidays. It was first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago.
The tradition of using a baby to signify the new year was begun in Greece around 600 BC.
Auld Lang Syne” was written in 1741 and literally means “old long since,” or “days gone by.” This song is traditionally sung in many countries at midnight, January 1st, signaling the beginning of the New Year.
Some cultures believe various foods bring good luck and prosperity if eaten on New Year’s Day. Some examples are: Donuts, Black-eyed peas and other legumes, Cabbage, Hog’s meat, and Rice.
About 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged in US each year. That’s the largest seasonal card-sending occasion of the year, next to Christmas.
Parents receive 1 out of every 5 valentines.
About 3% of pet owners will give Valentine’s Day gifts to their pets.
The red rose was the favorite flower of Venus, the Roman goddess of love.
15% of U.S. women send themselves flowers on Valentine’s Day.

Big Barn RV Park, Carthage, MO Oct 15th-17th.
Only one word can describe the October club campout. WOW!!!! We had 13 units in attendance.
The Young’s were the last to arrive around 7:30. This was a complete shock to some, since the Glorfeld’s usually earn this title. A group of us made our traditional trip to Iggy’s for dinner. Mike almost had one of the biggest disappointments of his life when the waitress told him they were out of Spaghetti for his favorite dish Spaghetti Red. This would usually not be a problem with most of us, but poor Mike was devastated. I wish I would have had my camera handy. Luckily for Mike, she was only kidding.
Saturday was full of fun activities because Carthage was having their annual Maple Leaf Festival. Most of us started the day off with the parade. The parade was huge with just over 200 entrants. After the parade, some of us went to Colaw’s, a RV supply store, while others went to the antique car and tractor show. There was also a Craft Fair on the Square that some went to. Saturday evening Mike prepared chili for everyone, for a grand total of 38 people. Everyone brought potluck sides and tons of desserts. We held a short meeting to discuss next year’s camping schedule. (More details to follow in newsletter) We then concluded the evening with games in the barn and a campfire.
Sunday came and everyone started to load up and head home.

Thanksgiving Fun Facts
It was not until 1941, that congress declared Thanksgiving as a national holiday. It was declared to be the fourth Thursday in November.
Fossil evidence shows that turkeys roamed the Americas 10 million years ago.
91% of Americans eat turkey on Thanksgiving Day.
Thomas Jefferson thought the concept of Thanksgiving was “the most ridiculous idea I’ve ever heard.”
Benjamin Franklin wanted the national bird to be a turkey.
More than 40 million green bean casseroles are served on Thanksgiving.
A spooked turkey can run at speeds up to 20 miles per hour. They can also burst into flight approaching speeds between 50-55 mph in a matter of seconds.
Here’s one of those strange Thanksgiving facts: Turkeys have heart attacks.

September 2010
What a busy month September has been!!! It began with Coachmen Days at Reliable RV in Springfield, then the club campout at Roaring River State Park in Cassville and finished up the month at the District 6 Rally at Arrowhead Point in Osceola.
Coachmen Days at Reliable RV was fun for all that were able to attend. We spentSaturday helping out with customers on the sales lot, grilling hamburgers and hotdogs for the customers, and promoting our club. It was a successful day; Paul spent some time with a couple looking at a Coachmen Chaparral. They took the unit home last week and are very interested in joining our camping club. Saturday evening we had a potluck dinner and a campfire on Reliable’s lot. As has become a tradition while camping out on Reliable’s lot, we ended the weekend at Lambert’s.
The September club campout was at Roaring River State Park in Cassville. We had two guest Coachmen units. Connie Gregory from Kansas City and the McCellands from Buffalo, MO. We enjoyed visiting around the camp fire, taking walks on the parks trails, and of course, the awesome food that we all prepared. Speaking of awesome food, the main dish for the Saturday evening meal was a Sausage and Vegetable skillet meal along with potluck sides and desserts.
The District 6 Rally was at Arrowhead Point in Osceola and was a huge success. GREAT JOB to the new owners Ann and Bill Carpenter, you were wonderful host!!! Friday evening after hot dogs and chili, we enjoyed some great music and dancing. A band called The Hard Livin’ Band provided the entertainment.Saturday was full with visiting, games and great food. We enjoyed biscuits and sausage gravy along with potluck sides for breakfast. Chicken Alfredo with Angel Hair pasta and sides were served for dinner.Saturday evening, we visited around the bon-fire, some of our very own Coachmen owners provided entertainment. Carol from the St. Louis chapter played her accordion and Clarence from Kansas, a rally first timer played his sax for all of us to enjoy. Sunday concluded the rally with a continental breakfast followed by a worship service. A group of us made our traditional trip to Pizza Hut for lunch.
THANK YOU to our club’s sponsor, Reliable RV for the awesome donations for the district rally

August 2010 Campout
Held at: Tall Pines Campground August 20th-22nd Host-Paul and Lisa
The Ramero’s, Glorfeld’s and Young’s braved another very hot and humid campout. Friday evening we all ran into Branson to eat at one of our favorite restaurants, Danna’s BBQ. As always the food was delicious.
Saturday morning some of us went over to Billy Gail’s Restaurant for breakfast. Breakfast was great and Marilyn got a kick out of their huge pancake. The afternoon was spent with Mark and Margaret taking Marilyn and Ryan out on the lake for some swimming and tubing. Jan ran out to a ranch where she keeps her horses and Paul and I ran into Branson for some shopping. The Keeling’s and Gibson’s came out for the evening for some visiting and to join us for a potluck dinner. Everyone out did their selves and once again dinner was perfect. We never grow tired of the dishes everyone prepares for our potlucks.
The weekend was too short and once again Sunday arrived and it was time to say our goodbyes until the next time.
Our club will be camping out at Reliable RV to help the sales staff and to promote our great club. If you are unable to camp, please stop by and enjoy the fun!!!

Labor Day Fun Facts
The first Labor Day celebration in the United States can be traced to New York City’s Union Square on Sept. 5, 1882. It was designed as a way to appease city workers after numerous strikes and in some cases even violence.
Labor Day has been celebrated on the first Monday of September every year since President Grover Cleveland declared that day Labor Day in 1894. The extended weekend helps Americans who choose to travel.
Originating as a celebration for the working class, Labor Day has also evolved into the unofficial end of the summer season and for many school districts the beginning of the academic year again.

Mother Nature wasn’t very cooperative for the July campout. Temps were in the 90’s but felt more like the 100’s.
Mark and Margaret brought their boat so we went out on the lake a couple of hours. Ryan, Mark and Marilyn enjoyed some tubing and we all swam in the lake. Saturday evening the Ramero’s and some friends of theirs joined us at Danna’s BBQ in Branson West for dinner. Yum-Yum!! The food was delicious as always. After a stop at Sonic for some ice cream we headed back to the campground exhausted.
Sunday after breakfast we took the boat out for some more summer fun before packing up and heading home.

As always, State Rally proved to be an exciting weekend. It is always a great time to catch up with other Coachmen owners across our great State as well as members from neighboring states. We were treated to good food, games, door prizes and entertainment. 2010 was election year for state officers. Paul was elected to State President. In order for Paul to be considered for President, Paul needed to be our chapter rep. Our club held a club meeting and voted to have Mike and Paul switch offices with in our club. Mike is now President and Paul is now Chapter Rep.

Weather may have been hot and humid but it didn’t stop the Campbells, Glorfelds, Ramero’s and Young’s from camping and having a great weekend. The Nugent’s drove down for the day on Saturday. The park has two swimming pools which entertained the kids much of the weekend.
On Saturday, Sight and Sound Theater in Branson was giving a free behind the scenes tour. A group of nineteen of us went to see the backstage, dressing room, the numerous sets and some of the live animals from “Noah the Musical”. Afar the tour, a smaller group of us went to Dana’s BBQ and the others went shopping. For dinner the Young’s prepared Italian Meatball Sandwiches while the rest of us brought sides and desserts. The evening ended with a campfire complete with roasted marshmallows and camper pies.
Sunday once again came to quick and it was time to back up and leave. Everyone traveling towards Springfield made a stop at Gateway Café’ in Spokane before continuing home.

Happy Birthday!!! United States Of America
Independence Day, commonly known as July 4th or the Fourth of July commemorates the Continental Congress’ adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The document, primarily written by Thomas Jefferson, served as a formal announcement that the 13 American colonies were no longer part of the British Empire and would henceforth be free and independent states. Regarded as the birthday of the United States of America, the day is typically celebrated with parades, fireworks, ceremonies, barbecues and family gatherings.
May Quiz Answers
Who Designed the American Flag?
Francis Hopkinson was a member of the Continental Navy Board and a signatory of the Declaration of Independence representing New Jersey. Interestingly, Hopkinson never recovered his out-of-pocket expenses for designing the flag. Congress repeatedly questioned his record keeping and receipts until Hopkinson gave up asking for reimbursement. The price he placed on his services? A quarter cask of the public wine.
Where can you find the original Star Spangled Banner today?
The Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. houses the original flag which flew over Fort McHenry near Baltimore during the War of 1812 and which served as the inspiration for the 1814 Francis Scott Key poem and eventual national anthem.
When did Americans begin to pledging allegiance to the flag?
1954, 1942, 1812, 1776
Congress officially recognized the Pledge of Allegiance on June 22, 1942. The version we know today was created by an act of Congress in 1954 which added the words “under God.”
How many American Flags are on the moon?
Six moon crews have planted U.S. flags on the moon. The missions were Apollo 11 in July 1969, Apollo 12 in October 1969, Apollo 14 in January 1971, Apollo 15 in July 1971, Apollo 16 in April 1972 and Apollo 17 in December 1972.
What should you do if your flag touches the ground?
You should make every effort to ensure that your flag never meets the ground, but if it does, correct the situation. If the flag is noticeably dirty, clean it by hand and dry it well before flying it again.

What a perfect weekend for a club campout. Glorfelds, Kellings, Simmons and Youngs all made it to the campout.
Saturday the women sat around the campsite and had manicures and pedicures. Sue drove up Saturday for a couple of hours to spend time with everyone. Lisa’s sister Suzanne and her family Doug and Samantha also stopped by for a couple hours on their way home from Branson. They live in Arnold, just outside St. Louis. After a potluck side Dinner, where Mark and Margaret supplied the meat, some of us enjoyed a game called Minute to Win it. A couple of us won million dollar candy bars while others won $100,000 bars. Great idea Marilyn, it was fun and if you didn’t play it was fun to watch and laugh at everyone. We then had ice cream sundaes in honor of Marilyns Birthday. Our evening ended with a campfire complete with a Bah-Wah-Nah log.
As always, Sunday came to quick but it was nice that we were able to enjoy a big part of the day because Corps. parks checkout time is later in the day.

Is June 14th
Flag Day, is a day for all Americans to celebrate and show respect for our flag, its designers and makers. Our flag is representative of our independence and our unity as a nation…..one nation, under God, indivisible. Our flag has a proud and glorious history. It was at the lead of every battle fought by Americans. Many people have died protecting it. It even stands proudly on the surface of the moon.
As Americans, we have every right to be proud of our culture, our nation, and our flag. So raise the flag today and every day with pride!

What Makes A Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle’s flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it … Dad

Memorial Day May 31st
Memorial Day, which falls on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while serving in the American military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, at least, it marks the beginning of summer.

The February gathering was held at Paul’s and my house on Valentines Day. Everybody was in attendance other than the snowbirds. Which I am sure are enjoying much better weather than we had been having. As everyone was arriving, final food preparations were being made. Everyone did some catching up as it had been over a month since our last get together and longer than that for others. We served ham and everyone else brought sides to go with it. We had home grown green beans, to salads, to soups, to dips, and dessert. As we got done eating we did more visiting. President’s day was just a few days away so I prepared a surprise trivia quiz for everybody on Presidential knowledge for a little fun. I won’t brag on ourselves and say how well everybody did. Okay, Okay, Paul and I took the quiz weeks before and only got 11 out of 20 right. Don’t laugh, some of the questions were really tough. After everyone found out how smart they were, we had a short meeting. We did some final visiting, and after a great get together everybody headed home.
Reliable had an RV Show the past two Saturdays. Paul and I spent both Saturday’s up there to help them with their customers and promote our club. Mark came up the first weekend to help and it was really appreciated. Mark has done an awesome job of promoting our Coachmen club even though they are SOB’s.
The next Reliable event will be the weekend of May 14-16. It is called Spring Fling. Please plan on camping out at their campground. So we can give back to Reliable and more importantly promote the club. They are also planning one in September called Coachmen Days, dates T.B.A.

The club Christmas Party was held on December 5th at our house. We had a really good turnout; there were 26 of us here. We started by getting everyone’s family picture in front of the Christmas tree as they arrived. We all did some catching up as the food preparations were getting finalized. We had everything from chicken and dumplings, to salads, to dips, to desserts. Everything was delicious as always. We are really fortunate with all the good cooks we have. After everyone was done eating too much the kids had their gift exchange. They each had the name of one other to buy a gift for. Then the adults played their gift stealing exchange game. The first several rounds were very uneventful with nobody stealing a gift from somebody else. Then around five or six things really heated up. The gifts really started to change hands. Some of the items got stolen enough that they became “DEAD” unavailable for anybody else to steal.
We then had a short meeting. I announced that Jim and Umeko plan on having their traditional Japanese meal on New Year’s Day and everyone is invited. More info from Jim to come. We then set the tentative 2010 camping schedule and it as follows.

Unfortunately the last club campout of the 2009 season was held the weekend of Oct 2nd – 4th at Big Barn in Carthage. Roger and Jan were our hosts for the weekend. After some problems getting there, Paul and I were the last ones to arrive on Friday night. All of us agreed earlier to go out to eat at Iggy’s for dinner. Iggy’s is just a short drive from the campground. Most of us had been there before and really enjoy their good food. We had six units in attendance and Bob and Lola from the Mid-Mo chapter also joined us for the weekend. Saturday some of us went to Colaws RV Parts and Salvage, they have just about anything you could imagine there. Others went to Barn Yard Days in Neosho, which is just down the road from Carthage. Saturday evening Roger and Jan had Hawaiian Luau themed dinner planned. They provided pulled pork. Everyone else brought the sides and most had a Hawaiian based dishes. Roger and Jan also had a contest for the most authentic Hawaiian look and funniest. Mark won for authentic, I won for funniest. Later we selected hosts for our campouts during the 2010 season. Since there were only four couples interested in hosting, we each took two months. Mike and Kayla have June and October, Mark and Margaret have May and July, John and Amy have April and September and Paul and I have March and August. We are to have the tentative where and when’s ready at the club Christmas Party. It was also decided Paul and I will host the Christmas and February/ Valentine Party. The rest of the evening we just sat around visiting. Sunday Roger and Jan prepared pancakes for all of us. Everyone else also brought food to go with them. As always the food for both meals was awesome. Sunday afternoon came too soon, as it came to pack up and head out for home.
Would anyone be interested in meeting for a lunch together on Sunday, November 8th at Golden Corral on S.Glenstone? Please RSVP soon so I know if I need to see about booking a private room.
The Christmas party will be held at our house on Saturday December 5th at 2:00pm. We will also have for those who want to participate, a kid gift exchange and the adult gift stealing game.
Jim and Umeko also said they will be having their New Year’s Day gathering. They will provide everything but the deserts.
The February/Valentine party will also be at our house on Saturday February 13th at 2:00pm.

Again everything was very tasty and we ate too much. After more fishing and visiting, checkout time came around. We said our goodbyes until next time.

Let us know if you can attend so Paul and I can get a game plan set up with them. Please try to attend; we need to have a good showing of club members camping out.
The August campout was held the weekend of August 7th-10th at Cape Fair Corps Park in Cape Fair. Mark, Margaret and Marilyn were our host’s. We had a really good turnout. Sue was there with her new Mini. Saturday morning everyone went down to the new marina and new restaurant and had something to eat. Later in the day Mark and Margaret took their boat out on Table Rock for some tubing and skiing. Ryan skied for the first time ever. After the lake activities were done for the day we started dinner. Mark and Margaret fried catfish, zucchini, hush puppies and fresh potato chips. Of course we had all the wonderful pot luck side dishes to go with it. After everyone ate too much and it got a little darker outside, Mark and Margaret had movie night. They showed The Long Trailer with Desi and Lucy, followed by RV with Robin Williams. Sunday some went back out on the lake. Of course the time to go came to soon as always.

The July club campout was held the weekend of the 17th – 19th at Tall Pines Campground in Branson. Friday evening, everyone went out to eat at Dana’s BBQ in Branson West. When we got back we had a nice bonfire. Saturday morning some of us went out to eat at Billy Gail’s. They have an awesome breakfast at a good price. Pancakes that were bigger than dinner plates and huge omelets. They had big portions of everything. Saturday afternoon some went out on Mark and Margaret’s boat on Table Rock Lake. Bryan and Ginger went shopping. After everyone was worn out from Saturday afternoon activities, we started dinner. We had a “bring your own meat to grill” night. There was hotdogs, brats, hamburgers, chicken, and pork steaks. For pot luck sides we had a big variety from fresh tomatoes to cottage cheese to fried potatoes and baked beans. After dinner we started another bonfire. This time we had a bah-wan-na log that Mark brought. After the fire got going, Ginger made banana boat deserts on the fire for those who wanted them. Later we roasted marshmallow. Mark also found out that roasted marshmallows are hot. Saturday after the fire died down, everyone retired as we were tired from a busy day. What a great weekend. The weather could not have been any better either in the low 80’s during the day and down into the 60’s at night.

Bryan took his boat and did some fishing Saturday and Sunday morning. Saturday we had a potluck breakfast. There was everything from fruit to pancakes, to bacon & eggs. Everything was tasty as always. Saturday afternoon some of us went to Omaha to a small town grocery and fruit stand. Both were neat little stores. Jim and Umeko came out Saturday afternoon and for dinner Saturday evening. They also joined in on playing some board games.
